PROGRAM
How It Works:
Coastal Squash provides a youth enrichment program for students in grades 5-12. Students are recruited in grade 5 and 6, and may stay in the program until they graduate from high school.
Coastal Squash team members will participate in the program three days a week. Twice a week after school, the students in the program will be transported from their schools to a squash facility, for academic tutoring and squash coaching, and then driven back to their schools at the end of the session. Each session will be 3 hours in length, consisting of homework help and academic studies, and squash coaching. Weekend practices will be held as well, and every 4-6 weeks, students will take part in community service outings. The program will provide transportation, athletic clothing and footwear, racquets and eyeguards, and academic supplies.
The academic portion of each session will provide help with homework, giving students assistance with their daily assignments. As well, the program will focus on improving reading, writing, and math skills.
The squash program will include some fitness training, along with cardio and circuit training, and daily stretching exercises, in addition to learning the game of squash. The program will operate throughout the school year, with squash camps and alternate activities offered as optional choices for the summer months.
